de INDRINGER (The Intruder) - Maurice Maeterlinck - Toneelhuis

This radical (but quite faithful to the original at the same time) adaptation of the short master piece of Maurice Maeterlinck opened in Toneelhuis at the end of february 2010. Conceived as a large audience performance project, it received very mixed and controversial reactions. It stayed quite popular with the general public - which was probably bothered a bit less with preconceptions about the piece.

Staged at some gloomy outskirts of civilisation, it focussed on the unspoken relationships between the characters. The presence of angels which started off with ‘On the open road’ (directed with Peter Vandemeulebroecke for Toneelhuis 2008), becomes more and more predominant, both in the appearance of virtual characters as in the stage design.

Together with ‘The Waste Land’, it’s probably a 'milestone' :) in the career of Peter Missotten as director and stage designer.
